Meet The GM : Episode 1

Post by Cyrisnyte »

First up, we get to have a conversation with 8time...the current GM of the Thunder!

1. What got you interested in basketball?

Image
When I was 7 years old, my friends did. Allen Iverson was very popular back then. He was my favorite NBA player at the time, until Kobe Bryant crossed him over one game. I started to gain interest in the Lakers and never looked back.

2. If you ever played basketball, what level did you play to?

I use to play all the time lol. I started when I was 7. I played for a bunch of teams. My team won it all in 2nd grade, 4th grade, and 6th grade. I used to be pretty good. I always thought I was Jason Kidd, but in reality I probably looked like a fat Kevin Love and played like Brian Scalabrine.

3. If you played, what position did you play and comment on your style of play?

I used to play shooting guard. To add to it, I was a pretty good passer. Back when we are young, everyone was a ball hog. I would pick and choose my spots to shoot. 2nd grade I was the 2nd leading scorer in the league. I don't think I could have made the NBA, but I was good for a white boy.

4. What is your favorite NBA team and why?

Image
LA Lakers. I was fortunate to witness the great Kobe Bryant in his prime. He was the greatest scorer I ever witnessed. This is bringing back the good times, because now we are garbage.
We need to trade for Paul George. Ingram and George would be deadly, especially on defense.

5. What has been your favorite moment ever in the NBA?

Image
Seeing the Lakers 3peat, and Kobe Bryant proving all the doubters wrong during his 2nd title run. That's where I get my cockiness from.

6. Name your starting 5 (All-Time) in the NBA.

From PG to C?
When I was younger I would always watch NBATV, and they would always show "Hardwood Classics". Basically all the historic games that ever happened. My favorite was the Celtics/Lakers rivalry. The hatred from both those teams was intense. Bird and Magic would definitely be my pg and SF. Both so great and passive that they would compliment each other greatly. Down low at center I would plug in Shaq. He was a dominant force and no one could stop him in his prime.
Now this is where it gets tricky. I am going to plug in who I think compliment those players best, not individual talent. It would either be Malone, Kg or Duncan. You need spacing with Shaq down low and bird on the wing. And those three were automatic from mid range. I would give the edge to KG though.
Those four alone would beat any starting 5. To end it I guess MJ for SG..

7. If you could be the GM of another CSL team which would it be and why?

A lot of gm's don't understand that it was tough to make moves as the Thunder gm. I was left with a pretty mediocre roster, and missing a 1st. Some were gifted a star. Every single gm I talked too are very intelligent. I like everyone here including Sun's gm lol. I don't think he likes my trash talking though. But that's what makes the league fun and enjoyable to me.
Anyway, back to the question. If I had to choose any roster at this moment...Kings.
The most consistent gm, and their roster shows it. 1-5 their starting lineup compliments each other.

8. What player do you enjoy the most in the CSL and why?

None. They all kick my team's ass.

9. What player has disappointed you the most in the CSL and why?

This is only my 3rd season here, so I can't comment much on the subject, but a player I was really high on was Draymond Green. I still think he will turn out to be a solid player but I was expecting more from him.
My plan going into the lottery was to trade my pick of it wasn't top 2, because I honestly didn't see a star besides Green or Porzingis. Luckily Stanley played like garbage for the Spurs and I was able to trade for him.

10. What one statistic do you look at the most when considering a trade and why?

Image
I look at it from a business perspective. I'm starting to learn more statistic wise, but my mind is always from a business perspective.
My first move was signing Rajon Rondo at any cost possible. Even at a high salary, I knew he had value and I could flip him from something valuable. When competing for the playoffs didn't work, I started a rebuild. I would trade anyone for an upgrade(Vonleh). He had a lot of value so I traded Johnson and Henson for him. Who is the best player or potential to be the best from those 3? Exactly.
So that's how I started out my rebuild.
Now I see the future and want to compliment Rozier/Johnson with the right fit. If I have to I will trade a better player for a better "fit", while maintaining cap flexibility.

11. What would be the theme song for your team this year?

If there was a song named "hype", then that's it haha

12. Who is in the CSL Championship this year and who wins it all?

That's a tough question. Pelicans, Kings, Sun's, or Pacers will win it. They are a notch above everyone else.

I really appreciate the response from 8time so quickly. I will continue to post these as they come in, will save some so that we have time to read over them.

Hope you all enjoyed!
Harrison -- Young --- ZDK --- AA --- WCJ
Duval -- O'Neale -- Okeke -- Reid -- N'Diaye

Suns. They will 4-0 the first two rounds in the playoffs and will beat Sac in the WCF. East is another story. Indiana started hot, same goes for Orlando. But I do think there are more balanced teams in the east like Chicago and Cleveland. Detroit will be up there again too.

Good stuff.

I hated A.I., mainly because he robbed my Bucks of an NBA Finals appearance in 2001. Man, he was fun to watch though. And man, now I'm sad reminiscing the good ol' days with Ray in a purple Bucks uni. Grunfeld trading him for Gary Payton was maybe the worst day of my life.

Ha, I know I'm not the only one that finds your trash talking annoying. We're just different personalities.

Good interesting read, as this should be a good series to know all the GMs a little better.
