Indiana insider "Future in limbo"

Post by Mattybriand »

Indiana Future looks confusing.
Marc Gasol Leaves town
After what some said was a successful offseason Indiana had a good preseason and came out of the gates of the regular season and fell flat. Seeing as the season was going in the wrong direction GM Mattybriand Decided it was time to make some changes. The First trade was trading away 31 year old center Marc Gasol, Marc was injuried for a lot of the season he hadn't made the big impact the Pacers were expecting. They brought in 24 year old Center Enes Kanter who is having a career year.

When we reached out to Mattybriand he had this to say
We love Marc but the number speak for themselves Enes has holes in his game but he is 7 years younger then Marc this put us in a Better position moving forward. Center is a hard position to fill in this league we are happy to have Enes here for the long term.
SUPRISE!! Bradley Beal traded for an aging star!
In a move that a lot of people disagree with Bradley Beal was moved for Aging star Dwayne Wade and Ryan Anderson. This trade was met with a lot of GM's saying Indiana doesn't know if they want to rebuild or Compete. Bradley Beal was looked at as the future at the SG position and GM Mattybriand shipped him out west!

An anonymous source within Indiana had this to say
Bradley Beal has been a HUGE letdown for us. maybe it was the system maybe it was the coach but he was not playing well at all. 13 PPG and shooting 42%fg 30%3pt 78%ft was not what we were expecting. Bradley was not happy here and Indiana wasn't happy with him... Ryan Anderson Brings size and shooting ability to a team that really needs it. I think at the end of the day he might be a bigger part of this trade then Dwyane Wade. SG's are a dime a dozen.

In Ryan's First 2 games he's shot 7-11 from 3

LINSANITY COMES TO INDIANA "next year"

In a trade that is clearly for the future, GM Mattybriand trades away Disgruntled forward Terrence Jones and PG Tony Parker for Jeremy Lin and change. Jeremy Lin is a Legitimate Starting PG in the CSL. After tearing his Achilles in November Jeremy did not think his name would be in the headlines THINK AGAIN. After failing to bring in a future PG this offseason Mattybriand Settled for aging PG Tony Parker. After losing the starting PG role. Tony began to think it was time for retirement and out of nowhere San Antonio came knocking at the door desperate to keep Kevin Durant happy they traded for the veteran PG.

In summary the Pacers are stuck in limbo. However the Future is not all that Bleek. The AVG age of Indiana is 25.2
and the only two players over 30 are Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade.

Interesting moves for sure. I think the Gasol trade was a good move for you but I do t see the fit for an aging Wade. You have brought in some solid talent in your tenure though and this team is definitely in a better place because of you.

Im definitely in a wait and see approach. I think Gordon has been a disappointment as well and may never be the player many envisioned.

Gordon is only 21 and still have time to prove he will be a good player in this league. In the right system he could prove everyone he was worth the #3 pick in the 2015 draft

Needs to, someone will give him the max after next season so I am curious to see how he plays and if Indy decides if he is worth it or not.

I'd have loved to see Lin / Beal next season but it's a done deal.
Kanter and Gordon complements itself very well with one being extremely efficient inside and taking care of the defensive duties and the other scoring and rebounding at will. That's the foundation right there. Adding Lin was a great high upside move and those 2 lottery firsts should be great to add a starting SF and a long term SG.
Remember to add shooters also as only Anderson won't be enough.

I really like the addition of Kanter to this squad. He was BALLIN' in Toronto (at least for when I was here) and if he can produce at that level in Indy, he'll for sure earn that contract money. Good read.

I continue to have the same opinion. He still is not the player many envisioned being drafted 3rd overall in a deep draft. But he is our #4 starter and 5th best player on our team and should be very good in the role. He certainly did not trade a star to acquire him which would have been required just a season or two ago.

Spot on. Gordon was drafted too high but is still a decent player. Most likely wouldn't be a top10 guy that year in a re-draft.

It seriously is preference. SS, Indy, Orlando and whoever else had Gordon knows I've tried to get him for years and failed. I rate him highly and would love to get my hands on him.

Coming from the GM that told me to draft Napier and Jokic at #3 #8 that year is pretty funny.

IMO Orlandos Future is bright. I didnt like the afflalo trade as I believe you could have get something better in return. mcDermott is pretty much Afflalo and Doug will be drafted in the Top10 this year. Same for giving up ola. I like Barnes but I believe dipo will end up being the better player. Assuming "all in Moves" are hard to find I think you should keep your picks and draft a PF + PG. This years draft is nice and Jokic at #3 and Napier at #8 will be great pick ups to put next to Ross, Barnes and Jonas.

I do think Gordon would have been drafted lower with more information. Jokic ended up being a bust, stuff you can't foresee. I had Gordon penciled in as a top5 guy too, back then, but I was talking about a re-draft and I do think there are some/many guys (preference thing like bt said) that would be drafted ahead of Gordon with all information we have today.

Or wouldnt you draft Cotton, Capela, Solomon, White, Austin, Payton etc. (Just to name a few) ahead of Gordon now if you could?

Exum and Parker were designed as the clear stars in that draft. Then there we're nine "Tier 2" players - players designed as "potential all-stars" - after that. So the top of the draft would have looked like this:

Tier 1 - Exum, Parker
Tier 2 - Solomon, Gordon, Austin, Saric, Tavares, Payton, Cotton, LaVine, Jokic

So it's really about preference. And, importantly, each of the Tier 2 prospects was designed with one significant flaw.
