NEBA (New Era Basketball Association)
Hey guys what's up. I've been working with this new professional basketball team called the CFL Marvel (Central Florida Marvel). Since we are new and trying to create and grow a fanbase I wear multiple hats as of now (all media etc, you'll recognize the writing style and Assistant GM). Our ultimate goal (which we will achieve) is to become the eventual D-League affiliate for the Orlando Magic who has a 3yr contract with the Erie Bayhawks. Current goal is to get guys exposure and eventually signed to the D-League, overseas, or eventually NBA.
A couple of players that we sent have made final cuts with the Bayhawks as well.
Check out the website: http://www.cflmarvel.com/ (I designed everything sans background and banner, wrote all articles thus far)
Youtube vids: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbSvFv ... yOhrm20Fhw (I recorded/ created practice footage vid, created TC Days 2-3)
Let me know what you think!
Also have this League and R2G and GAH to thank (really) as it has played a role in me writing the articles as it was a mandatory participation thing that I actually enjoy.

Great work mate! Very nicely done with the website, following the molds of an NBA team's website and also some good articles right there!
Not much time to read but I've read 2 or 3 and they look very good so far! I see a lot of CSL's Willy right there haha
Good luck mate, hope you guys can achieve your ultimate goal!

Re: NEBA (New Era Basketball Association)
Willy you are living the dream. I was actually looking at organising some investors and buying a team somewhere in Eastern Europe or Asia perhaps but you are already there - Assistant GM is pretty cool. Is it a paid job or volunteer?
Also, where is the funding coming for players/coaches etc? How does it work in the US for non NBA pro teams? Assuming their ticket sales are not able to cover all expenses - is there another source of income?
Very curious as being involved with a professional team is a dream of mine.
Love your confidence btw - very inspiring leadership quality

Re: NEBA (New Era Basketball Association)
We have been fortunate enough to have ex NBA'er Chucky Atkins who has opened several doors to people in the city (facilties etc) MaJic Dorsey who has opened up sponsorship avenues with up coming athletic apparel companies who are looking to expand their brand and we of course have to generate income through more sponsorship dollars so the product itself has to be up to par and fortunately there is alot of talent on the Orlando area and through that network we've been able to attract talent from as far as Oklahoma and soon Brazil due to team connections like Chucky who is our VP Operations.andrei wrote:Willy you are living the dream. Main thing if you're looking to find sponsorship make sure you have an idea of players to participate or "sell" the public on as they can't be average players who can't hold their own in adult League or better Leagues, find a pro or semi pro League, find out ownership fees or payment arrangements for participation, make sure TO HAVE A PLAN OR BUSINESS MODEL becuase sponsors just care about bottom line figures and projections.
Hope that helps as there are more steps but it isn't impossible at all.
We have our 1st official practice Sat Sep 19th so will keep you guys posted etc or check site for updates! We really appreciate it. Games will be available on Netflix etc and we'll stream on our site as well!

That is really neat, Willy. I'm sure most of us on here would dream about running a basketball franchise. It's great to see someone with the drive, the initiative to get something like that started. Look forward to hearing more about this.

When 1st tryouts took place he didn't know alot of guys and planned on building team around guys he knew but they weren't that good, I brought in a few guys and pointed out who I felt would be great player assets and he started entrusting me with more responsibility and my eye for talent and here we are now lol.
God prepared me and I wasn't even aware of this opportunity so I'm very thankful!
I've just been swamped with class and making sure the site is visually up to par with content so sponsors can get more involved and immersed with the team, I just mainly use my article skills developed here in these leagues to put out content so appreciate it fellas.

Look forward to hearing more about this.Appreciate it but I'm getting too much credit as it was actually right place at the right time. Went to watch my brother play in adult League (he's on team with Chucky Atkins and Darius Washington Jr owned by lawyer friend), a colleague approached my brother after the game to talk to him about job and the lawyer as possible investor I was just standing there. The conversation ended and there was awkward silence so I asked the guy named Jesse who was just starting up the team if they needed a commercial cause the studio I work with does commercials, he said yes, we eventually spoke I prepared a powerpoint presentation for him on how to promote the team which I had no idea he needed, he and the Senior VP loved the initiative not to mention he was interviewing candidates and he didn't tell me I was there to interview he just asked me to come and talk informally and he hired me.

This is incredibly cool, Willy. Glad to hear you've got a pretty fun gig.
My family is actually moving to South Florida within a year, and I've applied and am hoping to go to UCF. If I'm fortunate enough to get in, I'll definitely keep you and the CFL Marvel in mind. Perhaps I can intern or something down the line.
Either way, this is awesome.

Re: NEBA (New Era Basketball Association)
further question on this if i may - why would sponsors invest? i mean, is game attendance high enough that a lot of people can see the brand?WillyJakkz wrote:We have been fortunate enough to have ex NBA'er Chucky Atkins who has opened several doors to people in the city (facilties etc) MaJic Dorsey who has opened up sponsorship avenues with up coming athletic apparel companies who are looking to expand their brand and we of course have to generate income through more sponsorship dollars so the product itself has to be up to par and fortunately there is alot of talent on the Orlando area and through that network we've been able to attract talent from as far as Oklahoma and soon Brazil due to team connections like Chucky who is our VP Operations.andrei wrote:Willy you are living the dream.
