Season Preview : Unfinished Business

Post by rh0xxy »

Season Preview - Philadelphia 76ers

Offseason started for the Sixers with one thing in mind, re-sign Davion Mitchell at all cost. Unfortunately, salary cap has kept a simple plan to a more complicated one.

The drive for slashing cap started with a trade involving Davion's partner, Ja Morant. Ja got traded to the Utah Jazz for Jordan McLaughlin and Marcos Louzada-Silva. Then came in the 3rd team in Washington, who grabbed Silva, Swanigan, Washington, Tsalmpouris and a future 1st for Donovan Mitchell. It wasn't enough though as the team was still incapable of keeping Davion. Enters OKC who offered Brandon Clarke and DiVincenzo for the injured Bam Adebayo, Kai Sotto and this year's 1st of Houston. Although they have to pay the price, that solved the Davion's situation.

Earlier in the Offseason, the Sixers drafted old rookie in Chase Jeter in the 1st round and Terry Taylor in the 2nd round. Having restriction to add players due to breaching hard cap, the Sixers settled with a 12-man lineup. Here is the Sixers Depth Chart to start the 2032 CSL Regulat Season:

Point Guard
Donovan Mitchell - the 30-year old former star looks to revive his career following a not so good season in Washington. He is slated to be the starting PG of the team.

Jordan McLaughlin - JMac is a bonafide scorer with the ability to draw fouls. He is a decenf pressure defender who could fit nicely in Sixers defensive scheme. He is projected to be the reliever of Donovan.

Shooting Guard
Davion Mitchell - the heart and soul of this team is projected to be the starting SG. It doesn't matter though whether he starts or come off the bench, he is the ultimate glue guy of the team.

Malik Monk - he has proven that he can lead this team by his offense but with the arrival of Donovan, his offensive touches could take a dip. Regardless, a legit offensive threat whatever role is at place. Most likely a 6th man role or a starting SF spot.

Small Forward
EJ Liddell - still a work-in-progress offensively but his defense is already at a high level. He is projected to be the starting SF of the team.

KZ Okpala - a cheap reliever at the SF spot who is a good all around defender.

Power Forward
Brandon Clark -.starting PF of the team,.who could also man the C spot if necessary. Arguably the best big man of the team right now.

Chase Jeter - the old Rookie is CSL ready and expected to get minutes right away. He has to redirect his tendencies though to be more effective.

Center
Jo Lual-Acuil - the only natural C of the team. His veteran presence is much needed with his defensive rebounding.

Insurance relievers
Nadir Hifi - could be the successor of JMac as they have the same offensive skills. His defense though is a work-in progress.

Donte DiVincenzo - probably an insurance in case of injuries. Donte can give you instant play making if given the chance.

Terry Taylor - He has the ability to man the paint once he develop his endurance, but right now he needs to learn from the vets.

Season Overview

The Sixers is confident that they can duplicate its success last season even with an undermanned roster. The team's goal is to improve even further and finish the job successfully this time.

The salary dump trade was tough to make but you keep Mitchell which was the most important thing and in all honesty, Bam is missing the entire season and you get a really solid Clark out of it so that worked out okay.

Big talent and depth could be an issue but the back court is so stellar that it might cover it no worries.

One again it looks the team starts strong after this pivotal offseason. It seems the players have the goal fixed in their mind, going back to the finals.

Knowing you, that is not the end of trading and hopefully you can fill the one or other roster spot with another trade. The CSL season is long and known for untimely injuries, some insurance will be nice to have.

Health is going to be important obviously - especially in the frontcourt. But the perimeter game is so deadly, this is still a contender.

You guys look very solid. Should be another late playoff run for the Sixers.

With how weak the East is, i would put money on a SIxer/Heat battle. Still can't count out the Nets who are talented enough to win without a GM. Knicks are the dark horse depending on if Doncic can have a career season. If he does, they could very well be my pick. I am sure you will make a trade or two to help shore up your front court.
FINALLY a logical HC Rule our work is done
