The 9 best Point Guards for 2032-2033

This is the first of 5 installments of the best players by position for the current season. Neither trade value nor ratings are factored in. This is just who should be viewed as the best players based on their recent performance and their chances of replicating that success this season.



1. Luka Doncic (NYK)
The best player in the CSL is still without a ring. He's also about to be an Unrestricted Free Agent. If the Knicks miss the Finals again this year, don't be surprised if suitors start stopping by to woo the the once-in-a-generation talent. Expect Luka to shatter records with all eyes on him.

2. Shai Gilgeous Alexander (BKN)
Sporadic coaching and a vacant front office probably kept Shai and his Nets from repeating, but the recent CSL Champion and MVP-candidate isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

3. Anfernee Simons (NOLA)
Simons has always had his doubters. But after that incredible championship run, Simons has to be given his due respect. The real question is whether he can sustain that same level of play in a new city. New Orleans sure hopes so.

4. Lonzo Ball (DAL)
After ten years in Philadelphia, it was strange to see Ball in a Mavericks jersey. The much-anticipated Ball-Zion 2-man game carried the Mavericks to 54 wins and the #1 seed in the West. A first round-exit spoiled the fun, but who knows what's in store for year 2.

5. Jarrett Culver (MEM)
It wasn't the greatest sequel to their Finals run a year ago, but the Grizzlies ran like a well-oiled machine all season long. The central cog in the system is undoubtedly Culver, their 20-10 machine. Expect the 4-time All Star to garner some MVP votes, especially if the Grizzlies meet their deservedly high expectations.

6. LaMelo Ball (ORL)
Ok, ok, everyone knows that Ball took his QO and will be a free agent next season. The question is, will Ball rise to the occasion knowing that other teams are watching him? With so much money on the line, don't be surprised to see a career year from the PG from NONE University.

7. DeAaron Fox (BOS)
If Fox gets more coaching and attention, he could find himself on some MVP shortlists. However, the more likely scenario is that Fox churns out another All-Star worthy season on a 50-win Celtics team. Because that's what he does every season.

8. Nassir Little (TOR)
If you told someone 3 seasons ago that Nassir Little is one of the 10 best point guards in the CSL, I don't think they'd believe a word of it. But it's hard not to put some respect on Little's name, the converted wing put up 9.8 assists per game last season.

9. Frank Ntilikina (DEN)
After averaging about 25ppg every season as a Pelican, Franky "Fast Hands" Ntilikina averaged only 18ppg in his first season as a Nugget. I'm sure he won't mind carrying less of the load if it means more playoff runs like last season's Western Conference Final Run

10. Is a toss up. You can decide. Here are the options:

Haha Luka's main position 70% of the time is small forward. I only move him to SG or PG if needed.

But I don't mind if you list him #1 for both SG and SF either.

I have a hard time agreeing with Simons at #3. He played like a top 10 last season, but it was also his first full season not being an offensive liability. I'd be very surprised to see a repeat of it.

I'd knock him down below the top 9 and throw Bowman somewhere in there. Despite his bad defense, he's an absolute engine on offense.

Love Simons as #3! He lead us to a championship and got a ring so it’s tough to argue against a top 5 ranking, at least for this season. Excited to see what else he has in store.

Personally think my top 5 is :

Fox
Lonzo

After that there is a lot of talent and most guys not listed in the top 10 could get there with a good season. Hopefully Roach and Francisco!

The top 2 is pretty obvious. Outside of that, it's a toss-up. I'd personally throw Bowman into the conversation, but that's just me.

Love the article, we need more of this stuff. Eventually, when I have more time, I'd love to put more time into the league. I have some time now, but I'm too busy with tech school and my day-to-day schedule to really put much effort into high quality articles.

Fantastic read, I like the inclusion of Culver and obviously Nassir Little has shown the ability to play-make at a high level as well. I'd probably move Simons down (though I like his game) and LaMelo up. A lot of thought went into this, and it has some great insight. Haliburton is going to push into that top 9 this season. I think if Little replicates the season he just had he could potentially get bumped up a few spots but there's a lot of talent in the top 5.

If we consider Doncic a PG, then yes he's #1. It's a close list, but I'd have something along these lines:

My homer take is that if Bowman continues playing like he did as a Warrior last season (27 games: 29 ppg, 5.5 apg), he can move into spot #3-5

Not factoring in Age/Contract Id go Adams top 5 with Fox and Frank. I also consider win impact a stat.

List is certainly subjective. But if we call doncic and little a pg, might as well call jovic one.

For pgs, and system hurts some players (Smith in Miami is one)
Shai is the clear number 1 and there's a large drop off after him

A lot of guys in Tier 3 but a lot of them are system dependent. I have to look at him closer but I think waters could be better but may be held back some in sacto where as players like fultz and hali are being maximized in their roles. Quickley could move up more this year if he can take another step in his efficiency. But if not he could drop a Tier.

Ranking individuals was too hard for me, so I went with the tier system. I didn’t include guys like Luka, Jovic, Hali, and Brown because I see them better at different positions, but I can see the counter argument as well. I ignored age/contract/potential and just went with how I view their current form.
