Notorious GM Finds His Way Back In
Image
The charismatic Victor "Wemby" Wembanyama has a long way to go before he reaches his potential

The New Orleans Pelicans seem far removed from their championship-winning days back in the early years of the CSL and even seem distant from the Ramcus-led perennial playoff appearances squad. Ironic then, that their former GM departed for the Los Angeles Clippers, only for his old team to, after much dithering and hemming, hire the brief Clippers GM Jestor to take charge in the Big Easy.

And of course, the very first thing he did was execute a controversial trade. But more on that later.

The future of the team is clearly a young man named Wemby, and some within the organization predict he'll get a chance to start at PF in the coming games, with Lauri "Mr. Pelikkan" Markkanen sliding down to a 6th man bench big role as an experiment to try and jump-start New Orleans' moribund early season. But that's if he isn't dealt. Rumors are heavy at least one team is inquiring about the Scandinavian scorer's services, and the new New Orleans organization is investigating the possibility of a deal.

Image
Will babyface Brandon Boston Jr. be long for the team?

Also drawing interest are Brandon Boston Jr and Mohamed Bamba, who both have multiple suitors calling and inquiring about acquiring the young wing and veteran big man respectively. The recent splashy, flashy deal to open the Jestor regime complicates the potentials of their moving, but it's something to keep an eye as we head further down the stretch and see if these Pelicans can finally fly.

The new GM has made it absolutely clear that under no circumstances will Wemby be dealt. "He's the future star of this squad and we're going to do everything we can to help him be cultivated into the type of player that he's capable of. We simply are not going to listen to any offers involving him or our draft picks."

Also clear: the new front office felt there was a desperate need for a natural scorer who could be relied upon to be the green light, night in, night out. There were also concerns about the wings - Nick Weiler-Babb and Anthony Gill are both defensive players who never met a shot they could make and Josh Jackson has never been more than a mid-shooter with good defense.

They answered those concerns with the first sudden move of the season... and for that... we turn to the page and the next article.

Pels could prob win more games by sending wemby to the d-league. Pels need to make moves to get younger even if by only a few yrs. Barrett or fultz would be good targets.

I also agree but how do they add a guy like Barrett?
They would be title contenders if they could add Barrett and keep monk and Markkanen for example

youd prob have to include monk, its a loss in talent but you gain 4 years and that is huge in this league. Youth is currently way overvalued but if youre rebuilding you have to pay the price or get left behind.

Welcome back. I think you had a good choice in New Orleans over San Antonio if there was ever an option for you.

Wemby is talented but way too raw atm. So it would be another test for your patience lol anyway best of luck and hope you stay around for good.

Monk is only 29 and he won't regress much like others. They do need to trade lauri for a better fit. There's enough talent here wo get to the mid 30 win range

Welcome back!

As others are saying, Wemby is too raw to be effective. I'd have thought you'd try to flip Franky N for youth and picks as this season is basically a wash. I can't see the Pelicans being good for another three or four years, much like the Clippers before you left them in tatters. Hope you do patiently rebuild around Wemby rather than relive pre-CSL glory, he deserves it.

Wemby needs play - no two ways around it. He is far more valuable than the rest of the team combined including Monk. Boston is also a high potential prospect that needs to play. He is a strong asset that if you are not using better off flipping him for something while his potential is still there. I guess Pels can be middle of the pack team in the West but Wemby is well worth sacrificing as much as needed to get him developed. Dude has megastar potential

I disagree with all of this.

I haven't tested whether there's a difference in playing time in dleague vs csl in regards ri development but unless things have changed in newer versions, playing 34 mlg vs 15 mpg has very little impact with development. Add into the fact that there have been discussions of switching engines in a season or two also lowers the importance of excess playing time.

Secondly, we have already seen players get mad/demand a trade due to a team not winning. Wemby isn't concerned about playing time but has a high desire to win. If New Orleans does not try to win games it won't matter, he won't resign with New Orleans.

Welcome back t the league Tim.

Without their own 1st this years it is worth a try to turn it around with the flip of Monk and FrankyN. But good to hear that Wemby is still the piece to build around.
Shipping everybody else sooner or later for younger fitting pieces seems the way to go.
