BI's Spotlight V2 #2 - Marcos_Beck

Post by blackice »

This will be the second in a series of articles spotlighting different GM's in the league and picking the brains of the braintrust here in the league. Each one will have customized questions that vary in terms of detail and intention. Some will be directly tied to the GM's team, some will be more directed to the league as a whole - all will relate in some form or fashion to basketball. Each article is worth scouting points for a full Insider article. The second interview is with Marcos_Beck , so let's kick this off.

1. Were you an NBA fan growing up? If so what team did you follow?

Started following NBA in 2006 I believe. I was a teenager back then and somehow loved the Baby Bulls in NBA 2006 Live. Guess it's because of MJ but I really do not understand it fully.

2. OK, CSL time. Give us a brief overview of your current roster and who is staying and who is going. I know you mentioned rebuilding but does this late season surge change things? Does playoff success change things?

It really doesn't change things. What changed things was the KAT trade, being honest. Ever since I let Hayes go and got an all-CSL caliber C in KAT, the plan was set: try to be as good as possible for 2 years, bring Wagner back next offseason, and then rebuild. I planned for this, specifically. Keeping the exact same core for the next two seasons and see how good we can be, and if we can go the distance. Then, of course, blow it up and start from the ground, with as many picks as we can. But why am I talking about a rebuild so much? If we manage to get several GREAT offers this offseason I might be willing to trade everyone now and start the rebuild sooner. But there's a 5% chance it happens because it would have to allign so much stuff to go through. It's just much easier to keep contending and rebuild right after when we have control of all our picks.

3. Who is your favourite CSL player, both on your roster, in the East, and in the West?

Lonzo Ball, definitely. I love players with elite skills, and I love PGs with elite defense and distribution. I've always loved NBA's CP3. I also love Luka, elite offensive skills, would be so nice to build a team around a guy like him.
In the West..... IDK, probably Donovan Mitchell, I'd build a team around him but Phil won't let me haha

4. Who's the MVP of your frontcourt, Wagner or KAT? Who is more likely to stay?

Both are staying, they complement each other very well. I don't want this team to have an MVP, the team is the MVP. I love both, and they are very important for our team because they are very impactful and we don't even need to run the offense through them.

5. Describe your ideal addition, if you could add any non allstar to your roster but HAD to win a chip with said addition?

This is fun. I like this idea a lot. Right now, my non All-Star perfect addition would be DeAndre Hunter. I'd let Bowen start at SG, plug him at SF, have two elite wing defenders / shooters starting, give Wagner and KAT more touches with the starters and let Beasley be our 6th man. That would be insane I believe. If we're talking about any player in the league, though, I think I would love Miles Bridges. Versatile, good scorer, defender, he would be a fantastic piece for us.

6. Who's your favourite CSL team outside of your own and who is your favourite GM to talk trades with?

My favourite CSL team is the Bulls. Even if you count the 76ers in, lol. We actually worked on me getting back to Chicago last season but it was too complicated. Maybe we can try again this year?
As for trade talks, I really enjoy talking not only about trades but CSL and even personal life with many GMs around here. I'd say top 5 would consist of Doug, Phil, Andre, Jeff and Kyrus, in no particular order. I just love being part of the community and talking about multiple things, even if the trade market is what really gets me going hehe.

7. Finally, Lonzo Ball is your longest tenured player, does he retire a 76er?

Probably not. I'll let him go if we go full rebuild. No false promises, I love Lonzo, but if we're rebuilding, he wouldn't fit our plans. I'll search for the next Lonzo in the draft mostly likely. Hopefully he can win a ring before leaving on a deal, and I'll also do my best to send him somewhere he can continue chasing rings when it's due time!

I hope you enjoyed this look into an integral player in this league, and if you are interested in being interviewed please express your interest here: https://www.championsimleague.com/viewt ... 65&t=15050

It'll be first come first serve, and I'll gauge interest and go from there.

Good interview Marcos!

Seems like 60% of the teams in the East are already in rebuilds. Throw in the Sixers and we could have 5 competitive teams and 10 lottery teams. Adds an interesting incentive to stay competitive.

Nice work guys. I can appreciate setting out a plan and sticking to it. Really liking this 76ers team this year with KAT. A deep playoff run is not out of the question this year. Good luck!

Good stuff, the Sixers is definitely a dark horse contender in the East this year, and I firmly believe they can make a run to the finals if they can play at the higher level that they have been playing since the all star break.

Very interesting questions and a good view behind Marco's thinking about the team.

The 6ers will be one of the most interesting stories in this years playoffs. they had talent for many years but never could make the big jump. Is this year the year they finally break thru?

Have to give Marcos props for going in with KAT too. It was a good move and has paid off well so far for them.
