Assistants Still Haven't Been Fired
Thread was locked that the assistants were fired along with D'Antoni but they haven't been. Nor have my assistant bids that have been sitting there the last couple days been processed.
TBH I think the coaching budget was a great idea in theory, but in practice it turned into a total trainwreck, with guys trying to ninja bid each other for the few good coaches at each position (I did this too), and then when nothing got processed, or very little of it did, more chaos ensued.

Re: Assistants Still Haven't Been Fired
Kinks just need to be worked out. It's only an issue right now because a) it's in-season FA (so we can't just let engine decide) and b) everyone wants to make their stamp right now so everyone wants to hire new coaches.
The other issue is that with so many new things going on and all the rush, the simmer hasn't had a chance to fully be able to do his job either. Again, part of a new league with a lot of new things happening.
This will all normalize over time. We will not have this issue again, and I'm working on a quick solution for this situation specifically.

Re: Assistants Still Haven't Been Fired
thanks Myles for the update
I am actually happy that the coaching changes did not go through with this Sim. I would have lost my preferred coaches because of the Sniping that seems to be happening now.
How can we make sure that its fair for GMs in different timezones i.e. I bid on my HC back on Friday and now, 4+ days later I see people still bidding, at 1am my time - this is not good.
I am fine with coaching changes not being processed for whatever reason but I think the final bids should have been locked just before Sim1. We all expected the coaches to be processed with Sim 1 so if that did not happen, at least we should be secured in knowing that we have the Coaches we bid for.

There is no chance, unless we are doing it the PA style or you cant see the bids. I knew it would happen and just went with Collins. Nobody wanted him in the first place.

Blind bids for this initial run might have been the way to go. I know for Tomjanovich, Lakers bid, Hawks bid and I bid the highest. Then 4 hours later, the Hawks ninja bid us and win the day. Maybe remove edits from the coach forum. That way if teams want to ninja bid like that, they actually have to post it again so all other bidders are away that another bid is in and not side swiped.

That might be the best way. Create a PA to receive the offers / announce the signings and let game engine decide where coaches are going. This way is fair to everyone IMO. Blind offers and no "ninja-bidding" hahaDennis wrote:There is no chance, unless we are doing it the PA style or you cant see the bids. I knew it would happen and just went with Collins. Re: Assistants Still Haven't Been Fired
As far as the "sniping", I can't say about anyone else's intentions, but I’ve tried to be as honorable as possible. I specifically made my bid on Sloan AFTER the simulation (feel free to check when the time I made the bid versus the time of the simulation) so as not to screw you. That would allow you at least a full day until the next simulation to make your new bid and possibly longer since it seems to be a crap shoot as to whether the coaches get processed at a sim or not. As for the other bids I made for Don Nelson and Dick Harter, I sent a message to the person I was bidding against (StOfTheStep) every time I made an edit to my offer so that no “sniping” would take place. Because I know I was pretty annoyed to see people editing their offers, and unless I specifically checked, I had no way of knowing my offer had been usurped.andrei wrote:thanks Myles for the update

I do apologize for placing the bid 4 days after your bid was made. Honestly, I’m just scrambling for a coach that doesn’t suck at this point. I missed the first round of coach assignments (on Holiday) and missed out on a lot of good coaches. And I have no idea why some offers for coaches are being simulated and others aren’t. So I basically just went into the game to see which coaches are still available and made my bids from there. It’s basically turned into a clusterfuck at this point, I admit. Just trying to make the best out of an awful situation.

No offense intended man. I was shocked to see a bid for Sloan that late in the process that’s why panicked a little bit. Fair Play for doing the bid after the sim but others may not be so gracious. I am happy to lose any of the coaches if I get outbid fair and square but really worried that there will be new bids submitted before every sim and I will be screwed.GreenBear wrote:As far as the "sniping", I can't say about anyone else's intentions, but I’ve tried to be as honorable as possible. I find myself in a disadvantaged position here because a) I have one of the worst coaches ever and b) I am in Euro timezone
I see Lakers firing D’Antoni and I would kill to get a coach like that – some teams like MEM, BOS, PHO, UTAH are really screwed from a coaching perspective and can’t afford to lose their bids

Yeah, some teams are going to get royally screwed in the coaching. If I'd known what a complete hash was going to be made of this coach hiring process, I never would have fired D'Antoni. Oh well.

Re: Assistants Still Haven't Been Fired
The whole coaching thing has gotten pretty out of hand and its mainly due to the fact that coaches now have a much more important role. It should be that there is not ability to offer a different salary just a set salary for HC, A1, A2, A3. All we should be able to alter is the years offered and throw a pitch at him to try to make him "decide" to choose one team over another. Over half of the GMs have been screwed over at one point or another in this ordeal and people are taking it much more serious due to the scouting benefit it has now (this is a reason a guy like Dick Harter is even getting mention since teams are offering big money to an A1 when its going to screw them over in the long haul).
At this point it is what it is now though and once this initial dust is settled it will all be fine.

Re: Assistants Still Haven't Been Fired
Good points are being made. I think part of the problem is that we don't even know exactly how scouting is going to work yet. We have a general idea, but we have no idea how much money we're going to need for scouting. How much farther would an extra $100,000 get us in scouting?
And again, we know the general idea of how to make money back for scouting (through articles and comments and such), but we have no idea how much money we will be able to make back. At the moment it's all guessing and conjecture.

Fixed budget will not play into scouting, so you may use the entirety of your coaching budget or none of it, it will not have an effect on scouting. Right now there are no fixed amounts for salaries or years.

Hmm, so there's no benefit to spending $5 million total on coaches versus spending all $10 million? My mistake. I thought you could use leftover money for scouting.Myles wrote:Fixed budget will not play into scouting, so you may use the entirety of your coaching budget or none of it, it will not have an effect on scouting. Re: Assistants Still Haven't Been Fired
That was the original thought, but I decided to scrap that. Keep in mind though, if you use all 10M, you cannot fire any coaches as you cannot afford to hire any others.
