Lol. Noticed this too.

I don't see how a healthy Thad Young (major upgrade from Millsap), plus Brandon Knight, plus hopefully 20 more games of Harden brings us down from 69 to 66 wins. We haven't really lost anybody and Iguodala doesn't seem to have lost a step yet. If we're healthy, I'm gunning for a win total in the 70s this year.

Either way, still appreciate being recognized as the top record in the league.

A couple reasons. 1 it is very difficult to win 70+ games. 2. I am no fan of Brandon Knight, especially on your team. 3. While I think the overall depth of the West is weaker than it was, there are more top teams imo. You never had issues with the average to good teams but now with teams like Utah and Phoenix reaching year 3 and 4 of their young guys, New Orleans improving and hopefully being healthy, and other random losses along the way may keep you below 70 wins.

I will say that if I am +/- by 5 games for each team I am happy.

Really impressive article, thanks for taking the time to do this man. Agreed with most of your rankings, have a few teams doing better/worst then your listing but given you did every team that's normal.

The Clippers went all in this offseason and I easily could see them be a mid 50s win team and 2nd in the division. What keeps them down here is Dwights history of injury year after year. They are an interesting team, and I wonder how long BI stays patient with them. If this was the NBA I likely would wager a $10 bet on them to win it all, but only because they are the only non top 3/4 seed in the league that exactly has a remote chance to win it all and the line would be favorable.
I'd agree with this, in spite of my propensity to trade I think we've shown we're gonna ride with Howard through thick and thin. Gotten really good offers for him (S&T) but I can't get myself to let him go. Our success is predicated on the big guy in the middle. If he can stay healthy and we continue getting solid PG play I have us as a 50+ win team but everything has to click. I agree that our floor/ceiling is pretty vast right now.

Good read. I will be happy if we can reach those win totals. Not a good start though.

Understandable. With that said, Brandon Knight will not be playing huge minutes here- likely 16-20 minutes and if he doesn't gel with Harden, he'll be on the floor when Harden isn't. Definitely think Knight is capable of 10/4 with very nice defense and decent percentages in that amount of minutes. If he and Harden do work well together, then we may be looking at bigger minutes in the high 20s. Knight has been caught in a few unfortunate situations that drove down his value. He should be a 44/36 guy here if we can get the preference work done quickly.

It doesn't work like that when you're winning an insane amount of games like Houston is. Young could just a likely upset the balance than add to it.

Hell, we won 66 games and had Parsons for half a season and added Deron to the mix. I'd be over the moon to even get back to 66 as an addition/subtraction can greatly upset/settle the balance of the lineup.

Great job here Brett. Good analysis overall. I don't think we get to 63 wins as I think we won't be in full gear until all the instructions for Ricky take, but Ill take 55-60 for sure.

I do agree with most here and think if Houston got to 69 wins again with NOP being healthy and Thad being back, I would be very surprised. I honestly think having Thad steal touches from the insanely efficient Harden could limit the wins as I feel that allowing Harden to completely take over the offense is the main reason that Houston got over the hump and won the title. We shall see though.

Yeah I have to agree here.
Of course it's insane to think that he could keep those numbers or play super high minutes all season long but they went 7-2 with Harden and scrubs. So the best option possible is pairing Harden along with ultra efficient low usage defenders, such as Iggy and Faried who won't take shots away from him. Thad will shoot the ball a lot and while he is efficient, Harden is way more. Thad at Millsap's role would be amazing coming off the bench for 10-15 minutes but he's too expensive and too talented for that. But it would benefit your team for sure.
