Passing the Pack

Since Ricky Rubio has started the last 10 games as the point guard for the Toronto Raptors he has established he is already one of the best passers in the league. He led all players on either team in assists for 6 of the 10 games with 2 14 assist games, and a 13 assist game. He's also an incredible rebounding guard and pretty well rounded outside of shooting the ball efficiently.

On 1/21 he went toe to toe with one of the most electifying guards in the league in Eric Bledsoe (PHX) and had a game to remember. Rubio put up 16/10/13 w/ 6 stls and only 3 TO's while holding Bledsoe to 5-18 shooting (Rubio was 6-14 though, Bledsoe is also a very good defender).

The difference between these two up and coming guards - one will kill you by dropping 30 on your head and the other will kill you by orchestrating a victory with his court vision. Both are key elements to a good team, and both are great young players.

The two things I took from this is that Rubio is thriving in our system and that at 6-5 and the other thing is that, given his defensive prowess, he'll give smaller floor generals like Bledsoe, Lawson, Paul and the like fits. He's only 190 but at 22 he'll fill out and be able to handle guarding the heaver, bigger point guards like Derrick Rose.

The key issue is shooting with him but as long as he concentrates on running the team and creating scoring opportunities for his teammates he'll have a huge impact on the team and maybe even the league given time.

Man if Rubio ever learned how to shoot the ball, he can be one of the best points in the league.

I like Ricky. As soon as he's developed he will be the best two-way floor general. I assume you will build around him, so I wont be suprised if you are adding some shooter on the wings. Not sure I can see you win much with a Rubio, DeMar, Gay/Harris perimeter. Maybe the worst shooting backcourt ever seen, lol :D

Rubio is plying great for the Raptors - averaging 9.6 assists in the last 10 games. Could end up leading the league by the end of the season?

He's been very good, put up double digits in assists the last two as well. Just need to add more shooting around him, he's actually really helped DeMar's game who upped his PPG from around 21 to 23 since Rubio started playing for us.

Rubio is such a great floor general, for any team. If he got put on a couple of teams, they'd be the clear cut favorites to win it all. Curious to see how your team ends up.

I remember this game. Rubio tore us a new one, haha. Great addition, BI.
