Round 1 - Pick 5 - Golden State Warriors

With the 5th overall pick, the Golden State Warriors select C Yves Missi out of Baylor.



After falling in the lottery, the Golden States Warriors had a glimmer of hope when their top target Donovan Clingan wasn't taken in the first 3 picks. However, that hope was squashed when the Boston Celtics snagged him 4th overall. The Warriors had a list of 4 guys going into the draft, thinking Emoni Bates would probably be the guy who is available at 5th, but in the end they were all taken.

This left Golden State scrambling a bit, as there were a handful of players to choose from. Some guys were a bit older, some guys played the same position as Castle, some guys were so raw they were almost frozen. In the end, it left one guy who the least question marks, and that was Yves Missi.

The 20 year old center stands at 6'11 and 235 lbs, providing excellent size already. What mainly attracts the Warriors to Missi is that he's an absolute monster in the paint (we weren't missing out on another Kavion Pippen type), can shoot the corner 3 over 40%, is a good free throw shooter, great rebounder, and can pick up some blocks. The Warriors were one of the most inefficient teams last season, and Missi should help boost that moving forward.

This is uh... an interesting draft. Missi's amazing at what he's good at. But he's good at a limited amount of things. Scoring in the paint, O-Boards and Blocks, and corner shooting. Not who I would've went for at 5th. Maybe 7-10.

Missi should be a lot of fun to work with. A really really efficient guy who primarily waits for catch-and-shoot opportunities at the rim or from outside, but also an excellent rebounder. His defense is a bit rough although the shot blocking is nice. I did not have him pegged as a top 5 pick, or even 10, but he is the kind of extremely efficient play-finisher that I like quite a bit. Just hope he shoots enough for it to be worthwhile, as currently he does not.

Interesting pick here. Thought for sure he’d be available for us at 13

I was not thinking I'd draft him tbh. My top 4 went top 4 and figured one of them would have gone to 5. There's a handful of guys around the 5-10 range that all have some irks and quirks and I went with a guy who I think can do some things very well.

Yeah I like him a lot and really thought he would be available a little later. Solid pick

Really like him as a big. Great rebounder and great inside if he can take enough shots. Not sure I worked him out but maybe IQ questionable?

Loving the draft so far though, some definite surprises.

I could not make up my mind about how I felt about Missi. Will be extremely efficient regardless of where he shoots, but won't shoot a ton. Truly elite shot from the corner, but is it worth putting him out there given his offensive rebounding prowess? Decisions to be made here.

Very good defender, but I don't see DPoY potential. But that's not a knock, as that's an extremely high bar. Excellent on the glass.
