Clippers Bench Mob

Post by blackice »

The Clippers have turned around their season, winners of 8 straight and undefeated in the month of February. Why? It's tough to isolate one factor but the starting 5 have proven to be quite formidable. Isaiah Thomas has upped his 3P% to 37 on 3.5 3PA per game. He is managing the team and is proving why he's a starting PG in this league. Dion Waiters has shown he can be a 1st option and his tenacity on defense alongside Nicolas Batum shut down opposing wing tandems on a nightly basis. Evan Turner and Amir Johnson are at the heart of the team and continue the theme of defense first.

Image
Even Turner is surprised by the teams recent success!

However that isn't what this article is about; this article is about, perhaps, the best bench in the league.

C: Brandan Wright
Image
7.3/4.6/0.6 w/ 0.9 blks & 0.4 slts on 59 FG% / 68 FT% in 20.1 MPG
One of the most efficient players in the league, this is a guy that is unbelievably consistent and goes out every night and produces. Not a dominant rebounder or defender but he's decent in that regard.
29 yrs old

PF: J.J. Hickson
Image
9.4/6.7/0.9 w/ 0.3 blks & 0.6 stls on 50 FG% / 52 FT% in 23.5 MPG
A double double machine given minutes, Hickson was the final piece to the puzzle and has the size to play some C if need be. He is a tenacious rebounder and will cement himself as an elite bench player during the second half of the season.
28 yrs old

SF/SG: Dario Saric
Image
11.6/4.7/2.6 w/ 0.9 blks & 1.1 stls on 48 FG% / 46 3P% / 71 FT% in 22.7 MPG
One of the favourites for 6th Man of the Year. Saric is putting up star numbers over the past month and he is truly a player that can do it all. You need scoring? He's efficient and can give you 20 on any given night. You need spacing? He's a very good outside shooter given his size. You need rebounding? Saric can give that too you. However the asset he brings that makes him one of the most interesting players in the league is his passing. How many 6'10 guys can run the team like a PG?
23 yrs old

PG/SG: Reggie Jackson
Image
10.8/2.6/2.4 w/ 0.1 blks & 0.5 slts on 44 FG% / 33 3P% / 86 FT% in 20.3 MPG
A very good defender who has an above average STOP%. Jackson can break down any defense and run the team while balancing scoring. He's a dynamic player who gives scoring outside and driving inside. A pretty good playmaker to boot and could start on some teams. What a luxury.
27 yrs old

Injury Reserve:

PG/SG: Jordan Farmar
SF/SG: Kobe Bryant
PF/SF: Andrea Bargnani
C: Greg Stiemsma

There's also no MVP on this team (look out for MVP Race Part 2 - coming soon) but this the best bench in the league? Maybe not, but they can go toe to toe with any second unit in the league.

Love what you've done here. It keeps getting proven over and over again that you don't need a true superstar to be a dangerous team in this league. If you have good fits and good depth, you can hang with and beat anyone. This Clipper team has the mental (and physical) makeup of a junkyard dog, one that would never cower or back down from a fight, and that has to be scary for some of the top seeds in the West that could potentially draw them in the 1st round. I sure as hell wouldn't want to face them with the way they are playing right now... BI, the man, the myth, the legend, has done it again.

Hahahahaha good laugh before sleeping!
Saric is fantastic, been offering him around for less than ideal value (because I couldn't give him the 8-10M he'll deserve) and nobody went for it. Too bad, now he's kicking asses (including mine) coming off the bench for the Clippers.
Another former Bulls in Wright as well. That's half of your bench mob from players who played here. So you owe me part of the success. I invested some instructions in Saric lol

Good luck for the rest of the season, turning this team around was pretty unique given the route of trading your superstars brought more Ws than planned but it's highly interesting!

Good team and unexpected since the trade of Howard. Good example that dominating low post big men are going extinct in CSL
