Head Coach Jeff Van Gundy in action once again
In a move that had been rumored for some time, the Orlando Magic bring in Jeff Van Gundy as the new Head Coach of the team firing Jacque Vaughn, officially ending his tenure with Orlando before it had begun. GM WillyJakkz stated, "I was brought in to right the ship and felt the team needed to go in another direction and it starts with bringing in a proven coaching staff capable of turning things around for the better and did not want to unnecessarily or possibly waste any opportunities in developing the young talent we have on our team by having a rookie coach in a leadership position. Van Gundy brings a fiery temperament just as his brother Stan did to the team and we feel his no nonsense approach and proven track record of success will be exactly what we need to push us towards excellence."
In a press conference introducing the new coach to the Orlando media, Van Gundy had this to say:
The Magic have signed Van Gundy to a reported 5yr $30M deal.
I'm honored to be the Head Coach of a franchise whose had some ups and downs, has tasted success in the past and also knows what it's like to not be successful which can be a good thing in my opinion because it teaches you lessons, it teaches you responsibility, it teaches you to appreciate and enjoy the success while you have it and not to take things for granted... In order for us to achieve the success we're looking for, it'll take three things, it'll take patience, patience from the fans in knowing this is a process that takes time to fully develop...it'll take hard work, hard work from our players to be committed to working hard to maximize their skills...and lastly it'll take dedication, dedication from our coaching staff to develop the players to their full abilities, dedication from our Front Office to be patient but prudent in making the necessary decisions to move us towards our goal of winning, and dedication from myself to make sure we achieve our goal of success which ultimately entails our winning a championship... Again, it's been an honor and with your patience and support, we'll be able to achieve these things.
