Can Wade guide the ship? Will he fit with Klay Thompson? How much does he have left in the tank?
Fighting to make up games on the division leading Suns GM Blackice decided to make a change and traded starting center Roy Hibbert and reserve guard DeMar DeRozan for combo guard Dwyane Wade and two young bigs in Rudy Gobert and Mason Plumlee. The GM of the team sat down with Michael Wilbon for a lengthy interview:
Interview w/ GM Blackice
Wilbon:

BI, there was much speculation on what the next move would be. You have developed a reputation for trade first, think later and your team isn't dominating the way some thought it would.
BI:
Well Mike the addition of hall of fame guard Dwyane Wade makes sense for us. He will be our starting PG and given his PAS, HND, IQ we think he'll flourish with Oladipo at SG who can provide secondary playmaking. It gives us a major threat that we didn't have before. The deal also allows for Sanders to start at C and he's been great for us (10/7 w/ 2.6 blks on 50 FG% in 26 MPG). Hill and Thomas will provide a nice boost off the bench and can spread the floor.
Wilbon:

Do you anticipate any problems with minute distribution? You have a deep team and a lot of guys who will want to play.
BI:
Our bench is probably the biggest strength of our team. We will run:
Thomas/Hill/Marble/Lee/Plumlee
In addition our starters are versatile, most can play 2 positions.
Wilbon:

Wade hasn't played all season, do you think he'll be ready to guide the ship right away?
BI:
He is well rested and the biggest issue will be finding a balance between scoring and playmaking, not his health. As for his fit at PG, he spent years with Chalmers (shoot first PG, low USG%) at the point so he should be fine. We also like his defensive ability.
Wilbon:

Thank you BI and goodluck on the rest of the season.
BI:
Thank you.
Plumee and Gobert are the other two additions and will provide front court depth. When contacted Wade had this to say:
Depth ChartI'm looking forward to starting a new chapter with the Clippers, they have the supporting cast to make a run at a championship this year. I bring my experience and believe me I've heard the whispers of my demise; Wade is too old to lead a team to a ring. We'll see how the season plays out but I am rested and ready.
