DC Weekly - Wizards Update

With the season now fully underway, we are beginning to get a better idea of teams around the league. The Washington Wizards currently sit at 12-7 and 1st place in the Southeast division. Which may be a shock to most critics around the league, as the Wizards even proclaimed themselves as a bottom tier team in the Eastern Conference. However returning G Jordan Crawford said he knew from his signing that Washington was a better team than anticipated.
It wouldn't be a DC Weekly report without the constant news surrounding the hometown Wizards. Apparently word recently broke that trade talks between the Wizards and the Trailblazers broke down. Apparently Washington had attempted to acquire Kobe Bryant's scoring and leadership but most lucratively, his giant expiring contract. The deciding factor for both teams to go their separate ways was the wide difference in salaries between the talent on the two rosters. An unnamed source had stated the deal was "90%" done before both teams realized they weren't interested in pursuing it any further.
On the back of the fallen trade talks, our own Rodget Lellun reported yesterday on his blog that Washington has already verbally agreed with a franchise to acquire that humongous expiring contract they were looking for. In this proposed trade, Wizards would be sending out Spencer Hawes, Brandon Rush, a rookie selected in the previous draft as well as cash considerations. Being sent back to the Wizards is still a little fuzzy. We know that it's a Western conference team and that it involves a big expiring contract, a young prospect and a couple draft picks.
In other news, assistant coach TR Dunn has announced that rookie F Montrezl Harrell has been benched after the recent experiment of starting him. Harrell struggled staying on the floor, fouling out in 4 of the 7 games he started and being in foul troubled in every single start at some point. Washington staff believe that Montrezl lost the battle with his nerves as of late and have spoken with the young forward in hopes that this recent benching doesn't discourage them.
Has been quite a busy week for us, however it was most likely a busy week for Washington Wizard staff as well. What are everyone's thoughts on the recent rumors?
Yeah I heard the rumors from around the league that we'd be a bottom team, not just in the East, but the entire CSL. I even heard it from our own staff. I was a bit frustrated when I heard that. I knew when I signed my contract with NanashiWake that we'd be a playoff team. But don't get me wrong, we got a lot of work to do. We the type of players that don't lose focus though. We have a mission that coach (George) Karl gave us and we take that shit seriously.

F Brandon Rush trying to squeeze out of trade rumors
If this deal is followed through, the Wizards will now be right on track of targeting their off-season target, only aided by unloading Spencer Hawes' contract.
