New look Celtics

Boston, Massachusetts - During draft day the Boston management decided to shake up their actual roster. While the Celtics were the only team able to win a postseason game against the Indiana Pacers last season, the management still wasnt satisfied. In a 4-way trade Rajon Rondo, Brandon Bass and Zaza Pachulia were sent to the Brooklyn nets in exchange for Center Brook Lopez and power forward Carl Landry. In another trade the franchise send away Jared Sullinger and a future first in exchange for the draft rights to small forward Kyle Anderson.
Next to Toronto, Boston keeps being the most active franchise on the trade market. After several trades last season, it was already the 4th trade this season. Last season the team started as a bottom team, starting the previous campaign 0-5, but became a playoff squad after some changes.

Green = Player acquired within the last year
Red = Player traded away within the last year

roster 2013 season start
PG: Rajon Rondo, Random Freeagent
SG: Avery Bradley, Darlington Hobson
SF: Gerald Wallace, Jeff Green
PF: Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, Jared Sullinger
CE: Vitor Faverani, Joel Anthony, Kelly Olynyk

roster playoffs 2013
PG: Rajon Rondo, Goran Dragic
SG: Goran Dragic, JJ Redick, Brandon Knight
SF: Paul Pierce, Carlos Delfino, Evan Fournier
PF: Larry Sanders, Jared Sullinger, Brandon Bass
CE: Vitor Faverani, Jared Sullinger, Joel Anthony, Zaza Pachulia

roster season 2014
PG: Goran Dragic, Tyler Ennis
SG: JJ Redick, Brandon Knight
SF: Paul Pierce, Kyle Anderson, Evan Fournier
PF: Larry Sanders, Carl Landry, James McAdoo
CE: Brook Lopez, Vitor Faverani, Joel Anthony

The Additions
Brook Lopez - 33 minutes, 22.7 points, 10.9 rebounds (5 offensive rebounds), 2.1 blocks, 8FTA, 56%TS, 0.8PA/SF, 24.9 EFF
We hope that adding Lopez to the team, will lift some scoring burden from Dragic's shoulders . He's now not our only scoring option anymore. In Brooklyn Lopez averaged 17 field goal and 8 freethrow attempts per game. He shot just 48% from the field but hit 82% from the charity stripe. Thats good for 56%TS and even better then Andre Drummond (55%) or Dwight Howard (53%). We wanted Brook badly because his presence inside will result in fewer shot attempts for Larry Sanders. Lopez had a usage of 30,2% in Brooklyn even with a guy like Jeff Green next to him. Green played 10 minutes more per game for the Nets compared to his time in Boston and averaged 2 FGA less. We hope the same happens to Sanders. If his FGA decreases to 7-8 attempts per game our efficiency will increase significantly.

Carl Landry - 11.2 minutes, 4 points, 1.9 rebounds, 50%FG (41% J), 0.8PA/SF
Landry will come of the bench for us. He is overpaid but put up solid numbers for brooklyn. He isnt a strong rebounder but is able to draw contact, can hit the J and plays solid defense. Landry will have to fight for courttime as rookie James McAdoo will be ready to play significant minutes right from the start.

Kyle Anderson 10.8 points, 1.8 assists, 6.5 rebounds
Anderson will play backup minutes in his first CSL season. But loaded with potential the Celtics have no doubt that Kyle will be a great replacement the day Paul Pierce retires. Anderson lacks range but possesses a decent jumpshot, great court awareness and is able to draw contact. He will be a great roleplayer next to Lopez and Dragic.

Gameplan
The subtraction of Rondo will result in more FGA, touches and usage for Dragic. Goran compared to Rajon takes care of the ball and is an efficient scorer. On the other side the presence of Lopez should result in fewer touches, FGA and usage for Sanders. The future Celtics lineup Ennis, Dragic, Anderson, McAdoo, Lopez should be a very efficient, ball moving lineup with two stars and roleplayers that wont be a liability on both ends of the floor.

After scouring each team I think you've the best PG C duo in the League.

PHX w/ Bledsoe Hibbert, GSW w/ Curry Cousins, and CHA w/ Rubio Jefferson (who may be moved) are the only ones that come close but that Dragic Lopez duo is gonna be crazy to guard, much less stop.

Really good move Dennis I really really like them together.

I'd say Kemba/Ibaka come close but I'm bias :D

Good preview, I'm going to try and do mine today as well. I underestimated you last season and you won the division. Round 2 should be interesting, I really like the moves you made though.

You put together a good roster here again and think you have a good chance at keeping the top spot in the Atlantic for a while.

Will be a great great battle. Well, wasnt planed to be my preview, but had to write my trade article and just put all trades in one, haha.

@Willy:

Yeah we wanted a great C-PG combo badly and I believe its one of the better bigman-guard combos in the league. Especially will lopez have an advantage against guys like Ibaka, Cousins, Sanders, Hibbert, etc, because Brook (normally) doesnt foul out fast and draws a lot contact.

Haha. All in fun, life isn't so serious. I meant trade summary, gotta get on that. Might take me a few years before I'm done though

Wow, guys please - Conley/Gasol hands down. They deliver wins, not fancy stats so, yeah, difficult to see the value. Anyway the Grizz are always overrated so I don't blame you.

Good article Dennis. A lot of new faces, interesting to see how they play together and who is going to be traded first :-)

I believe Dragic and Lopez will never get traded. And Anderson, McAdoo, Ennis are very unlikely too. Just shuffling around until Ive designed a team of my likes :)..

I love the depth you've assembled on this team, and you have serious star power in Dragic and Lopez. Rondo is a big loss, but you needed a dominant big man and got one in Lopez. I'm curious to see how this new team plays against the other contenders, but I think they should do well.

Ahh andrei, my bad dude... completely forgot about the WC Champs.

I think Dragic Lopez will be great while Conley Gasol are proven to be great.

Tough call and depends on preference so I'll say 1A and 1B and leave it up for debate which one is which.

I'm just gonna hate seeing the C's for the foreseeable future though w/ Dragic Lopez... shit...

Can't say I'm a huge fan of bigs that can't rebound on the defensive end (even though I just drafted two apparently, ha) and Lopez can't but he's so big, can offensive board and score at a good clip inside. I still think a player like Sanders is perfect next to him and if you can get the guard rotation correct, it should work really well. At the moment, Dragic has to play the point given no other real handler on the team (Ennis ratings unknown for now).
