Irving On The Move?

Tell me if you have heard this before: the Cleveland Cavaliers are shopping Kyrie Irving.

This isn’t the first time that the front office has made him available but it could be the last. Sources in Cleveland report that there are “serious discussions with multiple teams” on a deal that will send the 25-year old All-CSL guard to another team in order to find greener pastures. The Cavaliers are looking at the league, and their division specifically, and seeing that the roster as currently constructed, cannot contend now or the near future. Instead of letting Irving play out his contract, they are thinking to move him now and hit the restart button on this roster.

Kyrie Irving has been nothing but a first-class basketball player and, even more so, a first-class citizen for this franchise and the City of Cleveland. You never want to see talent a supreme talent leave your team, but it could be best for the team and the player. I want the people of Cleveland and the Cavalier fans across the nation to know that this isn’t a player asking for a trade, but a franchise facilitating a deal that would be best for both parties.

Irving has been one of the best players in the entire league for years now but he’s having statistically the best season of his career thus far. He’s averaging a career-high 33.6 points per game on 47.4 FG% and 40.4 3PT%, both also being career-high percentages. His steals and blocks are also up this season, flashes an .809 STP% and a career-low turnover average of 2.2. Any team that is lucky enough to land Irving will be adding arguably the best PG in the league.

With Cleveland looking to start over, they are coveting young, talented players that can grow over the next couple of seasons with their young core of George DePaula, Zhou Qi and Damien Inglis. Draft picks are always valuable currency and the Cavaliers will look to grab as many of those as possible in any deal.

We are looking at an end of an era in Cleveland, one that we didn’t think we would be witnessing. If the Zach Randolph mega deal wasn’t bad enough, its repercussions can still be felt with the backwards slide of this franchise so far that the ripples of change are still effecting this roster and an Irving deal would be the end of it.

This. If I had Kyrie, he'd hit the Don't Bother Asking section right quick. He's 25 and one of the few genuinely elite two way players in the game.

If I were CLE I would've jumped on Jimmy Butler Biyombo for DePaula Udoh filler 1st if they haven't already as I don't see Irving being traded.

That said if Kyrie does get traded (for years now lol) I will be shocked.

That lineup better than current, also that lineup with current assets more valuable than Lakers or Pacers from my perspective.

Not to mention but not sure it's realized but CLE is 1 win back from BK which was highly recognized by most GM's as a well put together team.

Hi, I'm Jimmy Butler. I have a 47 IQ and shot 8% in 4 starts in the playoffs. It also does absolutely nothing to address the fact that the Cavs need a secondary scorer - they have neither the defense nor the 3 point shooting to make it work like the Magic did last year in a similar situation. While Butler addresses the defensive issue, he does nothing at all offensively to fix the problem.

DePaula carries far higher value than that by himself, and you want the Cavs to throw a 1st on top of that? Hell.no. Furthermore, the only thing Biyombo offers over Stokes is size and shotblocking, neither of which matter when the perimeter starters are 80.9/92.2 DSR (We'll pretend Edwin doesn't exist, and I already told Rizzo literally anybody else they could put at SG would be an improvement over the most confusing free agency contract from last season).

5-6 with DePaula as a starter 10-14 overall so that's not really telling as the schedule can dictate W's L's.

Butler 10.8pts 3rebs 1.7stls .450 in 21 games in Detroit's finals run last season.

Butler addresses defense on perimeter with Moe Harkless, Biyombo somewhat in the post.

Kyrie has been putting up huge numbers if you haven't noticed, what makes you think that dynamic changes with DePaula gone? Butler has 57 SCR 88 DEF compared to DePaula 53 SCR 64 DEF.

Yeah pick is overkill since Butler is expiring but Biyombo > Udoh late pick (Wolves).

That thinking perhaps is why LA Lakers are chasing their tail holding onto their precious picks much like Golem.

DePaula is still growing into his potentials. And damn right I'm hanging on to my picks. If the right offer came along I'd trade one, but haven't gotten it.

True. But, still, a very very good offer should be consider. But only trade top 15 players for potential top 15 players, that's how I play this trading game, at least.
