Bucks Get Bigger: Acquire Valanciunas

Bucks get Valanciunas from Orlando

The Milwaukee Bucks made somewhat of a blockbuster deal ahead of Monday's trade deadline, as they acquired one of the league's premiere big men on Saturday morning in former Orlando Magic center Jonas Valanciunas. Valanciunas, a 6'11, 22-year-old from Lithuania, has emerged as one of the league's best big men over the past two seasons. After averaging 13.8 points and 9.3 rebounds a game last season, Valanciunas continues to put up strong numbers, averaging 11.6 and 7.6 to go along with 1.7 blocks per game this season.

"We feel we got one of the league's best centers," Bucks GM Dylan said regarding the trade. "Jonas is still incredibly young and is an enormous talent. He's a guy that we feel can be cornerstone for the Bucks franchise."

"It was crazy, to be honest. I didn't expect it," Valnciunas said regarding how he felt when he heard about the trade. "After the shock I was very happy. I'm very excited to be a Buck and I'm excited to get to work with the talent we have here."

Valanciunas will play alongside Bucks rookie and last year's fourth overall pick Nikola Jokic, a guy the Bucks organization and many throughout the CSL believe has all-star potential. Suddenly, the Bucks have built themselves one of the most feared big man duo on the offensive end of the floor. There are still concerns on the defensive end, however, as Jokic has a ton of growing to do on that end of the floor. Defense hasn't exactly been Valanciunas' strongest point thus far in his career, either.

"You know, I don't think that's as big of a problem as some will make it out to be," Dylan said on the big men's defensive concerns. "Nik has a lot of defensive upside that we feel will come as he grows as a person and a player, and Jonas is a bit of an underrated defender. He's so big and is a good shot blocker, that we think he's a good rim protector and will be able to anchor our defense."

The Bucks parted with young forward Giannis Antetokounmpo in the trade to acquire Valanciunas. "We thank Giannis for everything he's done in his young career with the Bucks. He's been a pro's pro and played his heart out every second for our franchise. We wish him all the best going forward in what is sure to be a fantastic career."

Antetokounmpo averaged 9.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in 51 games for the Bucks, including 49 starts.

I like Jonas a lot, even more than the Greak Freak, he's such an amazing young C. But, my Q is, how much is he worth in the open market?
Regardless, you have the money to pay as much as needed to lock him, so he's a great addition of talent and another player you can build around. Great work, Dylan.

Great trade for you here. Val is a top young Center and could be in that top bracket once he develops fully. I don't really like Giannis in this sim so I think he was a good player to move.

The Bucks added a great young piece to be the face of the franchise. Time to continue developing the young guys they have and watch them grow.

Very nice trade! Please draft a european/canadian for a non-american team, haha.
I believe I said it in another thread, but I love your frontcourt! JV and Jokic are just the perfect fit.

Valanciunas played terrific against my Rockets this sim. 26/11 and got Howard in foul trouble.

Said it in the sim thread, Valanciunas can be great 26 /11 against Dwight and HOU then disappeared against Drummond and DET getting 4/ 5 and that inconsistency was something I couldn't figure out as he did the same here.

Him getting worked by Nurkic and Tavares was the final straw for me, I do think Jokic as his PF will up his play and make him better though or hopefully more consistent.
