This is some great stuff Marcos. I've never really gone deep dive on the strategies, just submit a file each sim to set defensive matchups and maybe change offensive/defensive strategy but the team building aspect I've tried to take more notice of recently as we're a bad post clogging team. Good insight on the defensive matchups also as I set them but yeah, the game might decide to give you a really bad matchup elsewhere which isn't something we can control.
I had an issue with Kofi last season in the post, specifically at center. I couldn't figure out why he was taking over 20% of his shots from outside 10 feet or more when he was 95% post floor range and either drive and shoot or post. Testing late in that season and I found it happened for my centers but not so much my PF's and at PF this season, he's now taking 98% of his shots within 10 feet. It's now an issue with Pelle who is 100% post floor range and post actions yet is taking over 20% from outside 10 feet.
I assumed it's a team building issue as someone like Ayton doesn't have that issue even though he shares the post with another inside presence in Williams. Made me think I need to fix something (not sure what yet haha) but it got me thinking anyway so I assume that a lot of teams have areas they could improve on to try and get the right mix. I just don't see anywhere in the game that allows you to see those shooting stats for your team, only the individual numbers then you'd have to manually calculate.
In my head, it's a big man having drive and shoot, getting stopped and popping it from out there of which Kofi could do but Pelle has no drive and shoot and only post but does the same thing. It's a bit weird.
I don't particularly think defensive strategies are useless. Yes sometimes they don't work (high zone, passive yet the team still destroys you inside) but that happens in the NBA too. Just because you want to play a certain way, doesn't mean it occurs all the time else all teams would play every game exactly how they wanted. We also forget about the player profile ratings, mainly consistency and always think a player should play to his ratings every game.
Can't say I have but has anyone ever sat down and watched one of those 2D games play out? Would have to do it in a solo league but setting certain strategies, even editing players to see what post, drive and shoot, etc, impacts when the game is played our as a sim? That might be interesting I guess.

I did extensive offline testing not only simming seasons but also looking at 2D gamesbt wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 5:55 am Can't say I have but has anyone ever sat down and watched one of those 2D games play out? I could see for example that when you have 3+ post oriented players, one of them would always be on the mid range area as there are 2 post areas in the engine. And the lane would always be clogged for drivers. Hence, spacing does matter in this game, it’s much easier to drive when you have good floor spacing, otherwise there’s always one defender at the rim if you get past your primary defender.
I feel like we don’t really know all the ins and outs of this engine, but the ideas I wrote in the first post, specially related to team building and player preference are valid and simple to execute. And with notoriously poor FGRIM, FGITP and FGMID, as well as Rim and Dunk rates, drives from the perimeter are useless and bigs who could play both inside and out aren’t as well utilized as they could be, it’s better to be always driving from the post than risk driving from the perimeter to jack up some threes.
It’s basically pick your poison because very few things are worth doing with how CSL is currently built.

I've always wondered how a non-shooter would fare set to sit outside but drive and shoot or drive and pass only. Right now, us as GM's usually put them in the post but I wonder if they were set to hang outside but not shoot (no catch and shoot or pullup), whether that would be a valid tactic to helping with spacing. Lets say with a single or even double post presence.
Really hard as so many things one could test but no one has the time plus other variables come into play anyway.

See Winslow's last couple seasons in Houston. Wasn't pretty but he also got CRUSHED in the 19->22 transitionbt wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 5:44 am I've always wondered how a non-shooter would fare set to sit outside but drive and shoot or drive and pass only.
