Playoff Seeding

I was wondering are we doing playoff seeding where the Division winner is in the top 4 no matter record? Or are we just going by record for seeding?

It's up to the game engine. I believe division winner gets into the top 4 no matter the record.

That's how it's done in real life.

Looking how the West is shaping up, this could shaft someone out of the playoffs. If the Spurs overtake the Thunder and Wolves (not unlikely), then the NW division leader has the 9th best record in the conference but still makes the playoffs. That would be something.

True but i was just wondering because for this upcoming season they changed the playoff seeding and based it off records not division winner

The thing is how to insert it into the game's engine, Rob. It simple can't be done.
I'm in favor of it being off in records instead of division winner too but.. :/

Ha, as of now, the "winner" of the Pacific Divisional race b/w SAC and myself would get the 3 seed and the reward of playing MEM, while the "loser" would get the 5 seed and play winner of the very weak NorthWest division while still getting HCA.

Thank God the NBA finally changed it - it's for this exact reason the rule was asinine to begin with.

I know it won't stop either of us trying to get it as #3 it means being not on the top seed side of things until the conference finals, if advancing far enough, but that's an interesting point.

NBA should look to shorten regular season a bit and change the playoff season to 1-16 best records in the league, and not top-8 of each conferences.

I mean a grand total of 76 games (2x opposite conference teams = 30 games / 3 against conference teams not in your division = 30 games / 4 against conference teams in your division = 16 games) and them seeding from 1 to 16. That would be fair.

They ain't doing it, too bad.
